Italian Sausage Macaroni Bake
Sausage Macaroni Bake is a quick and easy supper idea that your family will love. It is a dish that can be different almost every time you make it. Just use a different variety of sausage, pasta or cheese.
Ingredients
1 c. uncooked elbow macaroni
1 lb. hot Italian pork sausage
2 sweet pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp pepper
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes
1/2 c. water
8 Tbs. grated Parmesan cheese, divided
4 c. shredded cheese, cheddar, American, hot pepper cheese or a variety of cheese blends
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Bring a pot of water to boil and then add the macaroni. Cook according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
In a large cast iron skillet, cook the sausage, onion, garlic, and sweet peppers until the sausage is no longer pink and the vegetables are softened. Drain away excess fat.
Stir in oregano, thyme, basil, pepper, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Turn the heat down to low and simmer uncovered for approximately 5 minutes.
Stir in the cooked macaroni and 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese.
Sprinkle the top shredded cheese and the remaining Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until bubbly.
